What Is a Kaftan Shrug? And How to Wear One
Share
A kaftan shrug borrows the best part of a kaftan: wide, flowing sleeves and a relaxed body. It’s open at the front like a shrug, so you can wear it over other clothes instead of as a full dress. The result is a layer that moves well and flatters most body shapes.
How it’s different from a regular shrug
- Sleeves are wider and often fall to the elbow or below.
- The fit is looser through the body, so it drapes instead of hugging.
- It’s usually longer, from hip length to ankle length.
Over a co-ord set
This is our favourite way to wear one. A solid kaftan shrug over a printed co-ord set looks polished for brunch or a day event. Try the Navy Blue Rayon Kaftan Shrug over the Vibrant Crepe Rayon Top & Pant Co-ord Set.
For festive occasions
Kaftan shrugs work well over Indo-western outfits and simple gowns. A deep colour like navy, or a rich print like the Red & Black Print Kaftan Shrug, adds a festive touch without the weight of a dupatta.
On holiday
An ankle-length kaftan shrug, like the Blue & Green Leaf Print Kaftan Shrug, doubles as a beach coverup and an evening layer. Tie it at the waist for more shape.
Styling tips
- Keep what’s underneath fitted, so the kaftan has room to flow.
- Solid kaftan over print, or printed kaftan over a solid colour.
- Add a belt to define your waist with longer styles.
